The Taber & District Community Adult Learning Association, with funding from the Government of Canada, started the Youth Employment Program (YEP) in order to help individuals facing barriers which are inhibiting their ability to gain meangiful and sustainable employment.
The program will provide youth (15 – 30 years) who are facing barriers to employment with an opportunity to participate in a 21 week skill development and work experience program within the community of Taber. The project consists of three phases: seven weeks of classroom instruction, six weeks of being on the job and coming back to school for one day of the week, and eight weeks of full time employment. The program includes employment opportunities and life-skill activities.
During the program the participants will be involved in a diverse client-centre skill development and work experience program which will address the occupational goals and skill gaps of each participant on an individual basis.
The program will provide participants with a variety of instructional opportunities in the following areas:
- Motivation & Life Skills
- Essential and Employability Skills
- Personal Health & Well Being
- Computer & Technology
- Employment Readiness
- Client-Centered Instructional and Employment Update
- Workshops
- Supervised Work Experience
